Beginning in May 2012, employees of public and private sector organizations across Ontario will be able to take a wide range of certified accessibility training modules at Continuing Education Departments at the province's universities and community colleges.
Attendees will be assured of acquiring the same high quality of accessibility training content, whereever they are in Ontario. When the contents of a trainit module is updated, it is updated province-wide.
Below are just a few of the certified training modules that will be available. Attendees to the Accessibility Camp Ottawa 2011 on December 5 and 6 can obtain more information.

This half day training module examines changes required in three specific areas to accommodate accessibility change: technology, organizational structure and people. Leadership will be a focus for change in organizational structure. |

This one-day training module will provide Directors and Manager with a clear picture of what has to be 'managed' to comply with AODA's requirements. The overview will address accessibility as it relates to:

Dissecting the Accessibility Audit |
Accessibility audits have benefits for all businesses, education and public sector organizations. Attendees will learn that the accessibility audit is the first step to identify the level of an organization's accessibility. The audit defines what has to be done for your online communications to comply with standards.
A web audit is a low cost way to establish a measurement for your website. It provides highlights of problems and strengths, and offers practical suggestions to improve the accessibility of your site.

How to Create Accessible Course Content |
Whatever strategy is used, it always includes careful planning, consideration and forethought. at the beginning or early stages of a project. The half day workshop will include accepted online approaches to ensure classroom content is accessible. As accessibility is a 'group' responsibility, engaging web accessibility and technology specialists at the initial project stage will ensure accessibility is integrated into the web design and development processes. |

Understanding WCAG
|
Web Content Management 2.0 (WCAG) is the new standard for web accessibility in Ontario, Canada and internationally. This three-day training module walks attendees through the Four Principles of Accessibility, and the twelve guidelines that authours should work towards to make content more accessible.
Attendees will obtain a functional understanding of testable success criteria, the three levels of conformance, A, AA, and AAA, and sufficient and advisory techniques.
Attendees to the WCAG 2.0 training module will obtain an understanding of WCAG 2.0, and a collection of techniqes to meet WCAG 2.0.

| Strategies to Measure Accessibility |
This one day training workshop will explore measurement methodologies that address those with visual, hearing, motor and learning disabilities. There will be a special focus on measuring the accessibility of online communications.
Attendees will learn about the respective strengths and drawbacks of accessibility testing, accessibility audits and accessibility checklists. There will be a focus to remove, and measure barriers can be done in the order that provides the greatest improvement in access for specific disabilities.

How to Create Accessible Documents |
Attendees to this training module will learn that using tags is just a first step to create "accessible" PDF files. Next to HTML, there are more PDF files online than any other document format. Unfortunately the most common ways to generate PDF documents are not accessible. The one-day training module will introduce attendees to the accessibility rich features of Adobe Acrobat.
Attendees will learn how to convert non accessible PDF to being acceptable, and how to generate accessible data tables correctly. Both strengths and weaknesses of making accessible PDF documents will be explored. |
